In the age of maker technology, the Star Wars Droid Inventor Kit is the latest release from littleBits, the maker of “Smart toys for Smart Kids”.
Following their release of the successful electronic building blocks that encourage children to create and invent, littleBits has now added to their line of fun, easy to use technology kits.
This unbelievably cool STEM toy provides your child with the opportunity to build their very own R2-D2 Droid. Your young Star Wars fan will be thrilled to create their own Droid following the astonishingly easy, step-by-step instructions and bring to life one of the Star Wars favorite characters.
Not recommended for kids under three years old, the R2-D2 Droid can be built using numerous configurations, which means that your child has endless possibilities for customizing their Droid and reconfiguring it to enable different functions and abilities.
Each electronic block in the kit has a different function. For example, there’s…
- a motor
- a sensor and
- a speaker
The blocks snap together with tiny magnets, making it very easy and frustration-free for your young engineers to handle and create.
As they build and customize the Droid beginning from the internal structure to the outside body, you can download the free Droid Inventor app (available for both iOS and Android devices) that will give them the option of several different modes of playing with the R2-D2 Droid.
These modes include…
- Force Mode
- Drive Mode
- Self-Navigation Mode
In Force mode, your child is able to embark upon over 16 different intergalactic Star Wars missions, allowing for hours of fun challenges and creativity while they invent and engineer this amazing Droid.
In order to level-up and progress through the interactive missions, kids will need to problem-solve and use basic engineering skills to reconfigure their R2-D2 droid in a variety of ways. This is a terrific way of practicing and exploring their creative inventor skills.
Imagine the feeling of success your child will experience when they get the Mission Accomplished message which encourages them to continue on and keep playing.
As they unlock controllers in the app, your budding engineer can use Drive Mode to explore a whole array of actions using the joystick, sliders and tilt action, and kids will love the self-navigation mode as they watch their Droid explore its environment.
It works best on hard surfaces moving at a quick pace, but can also roll on low-pile carpets, and the Droid is able to detect objects in its path and change course – just as though it had a mind of its own.
Each R2-D2 Droid Kit comes with everything your child needs to get started, including the battery and easy-to-follow instructions that include pictures and explanations to help young builders.
Although some buyers say they are difficult to apply, stickers are provided to accessorize your child’s electronic side-kick. This means that your young Droid-builder can custom decorate it and allow their own personal style to shine through, bringing the Star Wars Droid Inventor Kit to life in the most creative way.
